Karin Rudefält & Doctor Blues - Breakin' The Chain (2006)
Karin Rudefält
In September 1981 the band performed their first gig in front of a full auditorium – and the success was a fact. Doctor Blues had soon established themselves on the blues-scenes and headlined festivals across the whole of Sweden as well as northern Europe. A milestone of vital importance for the band's history came with the blues-singer Karin Rudefelt's appearance in 1996. With Karin's entrance the vocal part of their music got a new dimension. Consequently, from then on, the band calls themselves "Karin Rudefelt & Doctor Blues".
Their first independent full-length album "No Pain No Gain" with own material only, was released in 2003. The album received warm receptions and fine reviews in the American blues-magazine Blues Revue amongst others. Due to the release of their second album "Breakin' the chain" in 2006 the band reached a definite lift. 2008 the band delivered their third album "Magic Brew", with a touché of damp hot Mississippi voodoo feeling, mixed in a boiling pot of widely huddled heavy and rocky blues. The album has rendered a huge response amongst the blues community all over the world.
"Karin Rudefelt & Doctor Blues" have toured around northern Europe and Scandinavia, and performed in most places with a blues-profile, like the biggest blues-festivals and most important clubs. The band is regarded as innovators of blues as a genre and they like to experiment and push the boundaries of the blues into new dimensions, yet with both feet deeply rooted in the traditional mould.
2009 the band remodeled the setting with keyboard and a broader bass playing, which has given the band a heavier sound and output. In 2011 the fourth CD "Walk the walk" is released. On this album also backed up by two friends - well known slide guitar player Erja Lyytinen and Brian Kramer. In 2011, Doctor Blues sound is even more dynamic, however rougher than ever. The setting is now guitar, bass and drums "only". The band has always looked upon the blues as a mirror and reflector of it's time, and from that fact booth lyrics and musical influences are connected to today's society and its people. The blues heals and cleanse! .

Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat - Tijuana Bible (2007)
Jim Suhler
Jim Suhler made a name for himself in the State of Texas as one of a number of fine young Texas guitar slingers coming out of the Dallas area. In 1999 Suhler stepped into the world spotlight as guitarist for George Thorogood's in his band of superstars collectively known as The Destroyers. Since joining The Destroyers Jim has recorded, toured the world and written songs for the band. Such is his reputation, he has frequently been included in many of the "Top Ten Guitarists" lists featured in numerous music publications.
Suhler's most recent project is a recently recorded collaborative CD with Vince Converse and Buddy Whittington titled "TEXAS SCRATCH" which was released in early 2011. Vince is a dynamic guitarist/vocalist from Houston, Texas. Whittington played for 12 years with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Mayall recently paid Whittington the ultimate compliment by stating that he is the best guitarist to have played in the Bluesbreakers.
When not touring the world with Thorogood, Suhler gets out on the road with his highly regarded Texan band Monkey Beat and with he adopting the same take-no-prisoners attitude that has prevailed in his playing with George Thorogood and the Destroyers, they have been terrorizing clubs, theatres and festivals alike with their flamethrower brand of blues/rock with a major side order of the Texas border mythology added to keep it spicy.
Along with Suhler on guitar and lead vocals, the band of top musicians includes bassist Calrton Powell, keyboardist Shawn Phares and drummer Jimmy Morgan.
Jim Suhler, born in Dallas, Texas, December 30, 1960, grew up in east Dallas, first exposure to music was by Beatles, Rolling Stones, and British Invasion bands on Dallas AM top 40 radio station KLIF in the 1960's. He began playing guitar at age 14, influenced at that time by The Allman Brothers Band, ZZ Top, Johnny Winter and Led Zeppelin. Later on Rory Gallagher, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Ramones would become influential but during the early formative years Jim was exposed to Texas guitar talent like Bugs Henderson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Anson Funderburg, Jimmie Vaughan & Rocky Hill. In 1985 he joined hard rock band Overlord, playing Dallas' punk/underground venues such as Twilite Room, Theater Gallery and Nairobi Room. From 1986-88 he co-fronted the Road Hogs with harmonica player/vocalist Memo Gonzalez. In the Road Hogs Jim was playing a much more traditional form of blues than he is now known for, more in the style of T-Bone Walker, Magic Sam & B.B. King.
Following the demise of the Road Hogs, Suhler's next band was The Homewreckers which featured vocalist Amy Robbins. That line-up played together from 1989-1991 during which time Suhler took on a role of DJ at Dallas' KNON radio station, hosting a three hour weekly blues show called 'Radio Mojo'.
During a Homewrecker road trip to perform at Huey's in Memphis, George Thorogood dropped by the club during a break from a recording session at Ardent Studios. He was impressed with Suhler's playing and the two struck up a friendship. After the Homewreckers imploded in mid 1991, Suhler formed power trio Monkey Beat, with drummer Paul Hollis and bassist/vocalist Carlton Powell. At that same time, Suhler sent a four song demo to Thorogood producer/engineer Terry Manning, after Thorogood told Suhler, 'Terry would love you guys'. Terry did indeed love Monkey Beat, agreeing to engineer and release a CD on his fledgling label, Lucky Seven Records. 'Radio Mojo', the name of Suhler's Dallas radio show, was released in February 1993. Several tours opening for Thorogood & the Destroyers across North America in 1993-95 followed.
In early 1994, Suhler & fellow Dallas blues guitarist Mike Morgan convened to record 'Let The Dogs Run', a collection of originals by blues greats Magic Sam, Lazy Lester, Howlin' Wolf, for Black Top records. They were joined on the CD by former Fabulous Thunderbirds rhythm section, drummer Mike Buck & bassist extraordinaire Keith Ferguson.
After the recording of the Morgan/Suhler CD, Monkey Beat went to the legendary Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas to record once again with Manning. 'Shake' soon followed, Suhler's darkest, most hard rock record to date with yrics fueled by a divorce that Suhler was going through at the time.
For the next few years, Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat toured throughout the United States and Europe, playing clubs, theatres and festivals for a burgeoning fan base. Suhler next recorded with Houston guitarist Alan Haynes, releasing 'Live at Blue Cat Blues' in 2000 on Topcat records. That release made Top 100 Live Blues CD's of All Time list in 2005.
'Bad JuJu', produced by noted producer Jim Gaines, (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana) easily the most fully realized Monkey Beat CD to date, was released on Lucky Seven records in 2001. Texas rock 'n roll, zydeco, Tex-Mex, hip hop & blues influences were evident on 'Bad JuJu'.
The acoustic driven 'Dirt Road' was released on Topcat in 2002, coming on the heels of the tragic death of Suhler's daughter Brittany in a tragic accident. Suhler started the Brittany Suhler Memorial Foundation in her honour, a charity which continues to this day.
A new CD, 'Tijuana Bible', was released in 2007, recorded in Nashville with Tom Hambridge producing, and including guest artists Elvin Bishop, Jimmy Hall & Joe Bonamassa.
In 2002, Suhler fulfilled a lifelong dream by playing shows with AC/DC during their Stiff Upper Lip tour, in Finland and Germany. He has also played publicly onstage with Les Paul, James Cotton, Duke Robillard, Peter Wolf, Willie Nelson, Irma Thomas, Dr. John, Pinetop Perkins, Lazy Lester, Steve Miller, Elvin Bishop, Son Seals, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Johnny Rivers, Joe Bonamassa and many others.
Also in 2002, Suhler and Lauri Miles were married by Rev. Willy G, aka ZZ Top guitarist Billy F Gibbons in a ceremony in Houston, Texas. Gibbons became ordained to wed the two and has subsequently married several other couples since.
In 2007, Suhler had his divorce decree from aforementioned wedding 'blessed' by Texas humorist/writer/musician/politician Kinky Friedman.

The Sean Webster Band - If Only (2005)
The Sean Webster Band
Sean Webster is an inspiring guitar vocalist with a great reputation on the British blues and rock scene. The band has seen members come and go since its creation back in 2003 however Sean’s focus has stayed the same and he continues to do what he does best……write music.
2004 was a big year for Sean, as he released the debut album “Long Time Coming”. This put Sean in line for his first recording contract, and showcased his fine guitar playing, which combines a great number of influences including Albert Collins, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore and SRV to name a few. His vocal style is of a rich, sexy tone with a low end rumble drawing comparisons with Joe Cocker, Bryan Adams and Jonny Lang.
2005 saw the band perform many live dates around the U.K. including main stage performances at, Burnley Festival, Maryport Festival the prestigious Great British R&B Festival in Colne in August with organisers quoting, “Sean is a new legend in the making. He has rich powerful vocals and searing guitar licks. Like so many, he has been working hard for years but these are Sean Webster’s years, and he is in his ascendancy.”
Sean’s second cd release entitled, “If Only” pushed the boundaries of the blues music, with Sean reaching out to a wider and (often) younger audience. “If Only” came to the attention of Tony Edser, editor of “Where’s Eric!” the official Eric Clapton magazine who decided to feature Sean as The “One to watch”. Having personally placed a copy of the cd in Eric’s hands, it was rumoured that Sean was inline for supporting Eric on that years tour. Unfortunately Sean was pipped at the post by the legendary Robert Cray!!!

Jim Suhler - Dirt Road (2002)
Jim Suhler
The CD has been described as “…an alluring mix of Blues, Americana, and roots music which flirts with Celtic and Arabic melodies on “Out on The Western Plain” and daredevil guitar work on “Dust Devil”.
Covers range from Johnny Winter’s “Dallas”, Mance Lipscomb’s “Spanish Flangdang”, and soundtrack-like forays such as “My Morning Prayer”, and “Holly Ridge”.
An acoustic-driven CD featuring Jim Suhler, “Dirt Road” features plenty of driving slide guitar and National resophonic work, and guests such as Carlton Powell, Sam Myers, and Tim Alexander, among others.

The Rocky Athas Group - Voodoo Moon (2005)
The Rocky Athas Group
Rocky Athas, known to critics and fans alike The Texas Tornado, The Malice from Dallas, The Young Eric Clapton and The Last Great Bluesbreaker Guitarist, boasts an arsenal of punishing guitar riffs and catchy hooks that opened every door. From his debut solo album at Willie Nelson's studio with multi-Grammy-winning producer Jim Gaines, to recording with Buddy Miles and SRV's Double Trouble to Glenn Hughes, Joe Walsh and John Mayall, Rocky has a blues rock pedigree that spans reads like a Who's Who of musicians. You may not know how to pronounce his name correctly, but you will surely remember him playing! With his beautifully crafted new album "Shakin' The Dust" Rocky is here to announce his return from international touring with The Godfather of British Blues to reclaim his rightful place front and centre, delivering his Texas-style musical message.
After carrying the mantle of the coveted lead guitar role with John Mayall's legendary Bluesbreakers for eight years, Rocky Athas has successfully renewed his solo career. The long-awaited reunion between Rocky's good friend and multi-Grammy Award-winning producer Jim Gaines earned Shakin' the Dust rave reviews and received a nomination for Album of the Year!
In repeated partnership with Grammy Award-winning producer Jim Gaines, Rocky Athas has released a string of albums including Miracle, Voodoo Moon, Lightning Strikes Twice, Let My Guitar Do The Talking... the public everywhere they go.
Early in his career, Rocky was the creative vortex behind Lightning, one of the biggest attractions in Texas nightclub history, opening regularly for national shows.
At age 23, the Oak Cliff, Texas native was included on Buddy Magazine's now-legendary list of best guitarists - one of the first and youngest ever to receive the honor. Rocky shares that honor with Eric Johnson, Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Billy Gibbons (of ZZ Top) and Johnny Winter.
Moving on from Lightning, Rocky began appearing as the lead guitarist for national acts, including southern rock single Jim Dandy and Black Oak Arkansas. Two of BOA's biggest hits, "Ready as Hell" and "Wild Bunch", were written by Rocky and feature his interpretation.
While playing with BOA, Rocky was introduced to the Bolin brothers - drummer extraordinaire Johnnie Bolin and Tommy Bolin (of Deep Purple and James Gang). Johnnie and Rocky cemented a lifelong bond as brothers. After Tommy's death, Rocky performed, toured and recorded Tommy Bolin Tribute shows with Johnnie in support of the Tommy Bolin Archives foundation. Joining them for these efforts was their friend and incredible vocalist and bassist Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple and Trapeze.
Throughout his career, Rocky was asked about his friendship with Stevie Ray Vaughan, an Oak Cliff native and legendary guitarist. Rocky is extremely proud of their shared Oak Cliff roots and their friendship. In Kerri Leigh's biography Stevie Ray Soul To Soul, Rocky shares some stories of that early friendship, before Rocky or Stevie knew music or fame. In 2000, Rocky worked with Buddy Miles and Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble rhythm section on the album The Bluesberries for Ruf Records. Rocky also recorded the Jimi Hendrix classic "The Wind Cries Mary" for the Ruf Records album Blue Haze - Songs of Jimi Hendrix.
With Jimmie Vaughan - Wildflower Music Festival 2016
With Buddy Miles recording The Bluesberries with Double Trouble
With Jim Gaines, Sandy Carroll and Jessica Athas at their house for a songwriting session.
While working on The Bluesberries project, Rocky befriended Grammy Award-winning producer Jim Gaines, who has worked with Santana, Steve Miller, Journey and Stevie Ray Vaughan and who was named Blues Producer of the Year in 2003. flourished, Rocky wrote, recorded and released their first worldwide album, Miracle, produced by Jim.
Lately, Rocky received an offer he couldn't refuse: John Mayall, the iconic "Godfather of British Blues", asked him to play guitar on his next album. Needless to say, Rocky was honored to be recognized for his skill and thrilled to join Mayall's legendary team, The Bluesbreakers. Former members included Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Mick Taylor. A few weeks after John Mayall's call, they were together in the studio working on Tough. The album was a resounding success, and Rocky's performance did not go unnoticed. Guitar Player Magazine wrote that Rocky was "a veteran Texas gunslinger with a wicked tone and a thriving solo career of his own".

Chasin' the Train - Dead Man's Handle (2020)
Chasin' the Train
The Scottish blues scene is still flourishing with top-notch bands. Here is an example of one of them, the band Chasin’ The Train, who all hail from the Dumfries delta country. This is their debut release and packs a punch, just like their live shows which are not to be missed, very special.
They are a five-piece band comprising of Tom Cuddihy on lead vocals and guitar. He is joined by Bob “Howlin” Clements on blues harp. Next is Peter Jamieson on bass, keyboards and backing vocals. Rory Nelson provides great licks on guitar and Jason “Moon Drummer” Little on percussion.
Usually, their sets are peppered with cover versions but here are nine self-penned tracks of different musical genres, including blues, some jazzy tones and classic rock throughout. The opener, Beat Up Ford, incorporated a rock and roll style with a nod to Chuck Berry.
FWPB next, (First World Problem Blues) a tongue in cheek take to modern living is very quirky some very good harmonica here and a good groove. Temporary Man starts with a wonderful scything slide guitar lick, and then the song explodes into a real shuffle of a tune, exhibiting the band’s big sound and tight form. Some good guitar solos complement the vocals also, a highlight.
Down Home mellows the tone altogether at least initially, and then the pace quickens. It seems to allude to their home town Dumfries, locals call themselves Doonhamers, and so here is the town’s upcoming anthem, catchy chorus, and fine musicianship.
Whisky Bottle has a good chorus also, good rhythm section here marrying searing harmonica tones. Too Much Sugar has an up-tempo jump jive beat again with fine guitar playing. Exit Wounds is a fantastic slow blues song with a laid back groove here. No Blues opens with a great drum beat, another optimistic tune with a great vibe.
The final track is, Don’t You Lie To Me, a mellow tone to this again showcasing the band at their best. This is a talented band that is full of electrifying rhythm and lots of energy. Certainly, a band to look out for, if you get the chance to see them on stage, catch them. A great release, diverse sounds and catchy riffs and choruses, what’s not to like!

Greg Hatza Organization - Diggin Up My Roots (2017)
Greg Hatza Organization
Jazz organist Greg Hatza grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania where he learned to play the Hammond B3 organ, the traditional instrument preferred by many jazz organists. Today he performs on the Nord C2D organ, an instrument designed to replicate the sound of the B3. Greg currently lives in Baltimore, where he performs with his band called The Greg Hatza ORGANization, featuring guitarist Brian Kooken, drummer Robert Shahid, and saxophonist Peter Fraize. This disc is a set of blues and R & B tunes, three of which Greg composed: Baltimore Strut, Big Big Back, and Headin On Down South. The rest are a varied collection of blues standards with interesting histories. I Got A Woman was written by singer Ray Charles and Renald Richard, who played trumpet in Ray’s band. Ray first recorded it in 1954 on Atlantic Records. The song is an up-beat rhythm and blues tune, a style sometimes called jump blues. The band plays a long eight minute version which stays tight and lively throughout with fine instrumental solos. High Heel Sneakers is a twelve bar blues number written by Robert Higginbotham, who recorded the song in 1963 under the name Tommy Tucker. The song has been recorded by more than 1000 different artists, including Bill Haley & the Comets, the Beatles, Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry. The band performs it with a choppy funk beat and instrumental riffs that make the melody virtually unrecognizable. Night Train is another well-known twelve bar blues standard. The song opens with its uniquely-identifying saxophone wail, and lopes its way with a steady, rocking rhythm that features two fine saxophone and keyboard solos, and an interesting key change near the half-way mark. The song was first recorded by Jimmy Forrest in 1951. Please Send Me Someone To Love was written by singer-songwriter Percy Mayfield in 1950, who recorded it the same year for Art Rupe’s Specialty Records. The song was originally written and sung as a slow love ballad. The band performs it at a bluesy walking pace featuring alternating guitar and keyboard solos. Hand Jive was written by Johnny Otis in 1958 and originally called Willie and the Hand Jive, and was first performed on the Johnny Otis Show. The song is played with a funky Bo Diddley beat, usually accompanied by a series of frenetic hand dance movements. The band stays true to the beat, and the song features an outstanding saxophone solo by Peter Fraize. Stagger Lee is an American folk song that has been around since 1897, and was first published in 1911 and later recorded by Fred Waring’s Pennsylvanians in 1923. The song is about two pimps in St. Louis, Stag Lee and Billy Lyons, who have a fatal argument over Stag’s hat. The tune has been recorded by over 400 artists, including Lloyd Price, whose 1959 version rose to the top of the Rhythm and Blues charts. Brian Kooken performs a bluesy solo on guitar while the band chants a verse of “Go, Stagger Lee” to finish the set.

The Most Southern Blues Band - The Gathering (2013)
The Most Southern Blues Band
With roots in soul, funk and blues, members of The Most Southern Blues Band are first class musicians, whose cool comes from Argentina. Michael "Mig" Paley, Alvaro Cañada, Norbert Fimpel and Daniel "Alambre" Gonzalez, are the pillars behind this group, with the invaluable participation and enthusiasm of excellent musicians from USA , this work is completed. Although you can’t get more southern than Argentina, it’s really the world experience that comes from having performed with great artists such as Joe Cocker, Shirley King, Steve C, Tony Coleman, Patty Jo, Eternal Light, that brings the muscle to this first fusion.
So while they excel in arranging classics such as Route 66 or Before You Accuse Me, their true cool comes through in their own creations. So cool, in fact…it’s hot.
Whether your heart is in the north, south, east or west, we know you will enjoy the coming tracks, as they are brought to you simply by letting friendship, born from the love of music, be your only compass.
Keep Cool,
Mr. Penn Gwen
Keep Cool,

Gloria Ann Taylor - Love Is A Hurtin' Thing (2015)
Gloria Ann Taylor
Soul singer Gloria Ann Taylor has no rags to riches tale to tell. Her story is one of personal sacrifice, failed relationships, and missed opportunity. She was leading a hard knock life before being swept-up by the flash and promise of a marriage and business partnership with a successful record producer. She would be nominated for a Grammy, rub shoulders with James Brown and Bootsy Collins, and turn heads from Motown. But in the end she rejected professional singing, the music business, and the lifestyle that came with it. Thankfully for music lovers, before Gloria closed the doors on her singing career, she left us with some amazing soul songs. Deeply shaded by gospel roots, her haunting sound clearly comes from the gut. Gloria did not fake the funk.
Gloria was a partial owner of the Selector Sounds label, along with her husband/producer Walter Whisenhunt (previously a right-hand man to James Brown), and her brother Leonard. They released five Gloria Taylor singles between 1971 and 1977. They also released the three-song Deep Inside You EP, under the name Gloria Ann Taylor and Walter Whisenhunt’s Orchestra. In the studio Whisenhunt would work up a unique musical brew that mixed northern soul with exotic percussion and fuzzy psychedelic guitars. He moved Gloria through a range of tempos and stylings from ballads to disco. Her gritty vocal performance was set to orchestral arrangements creating a juxtaposition of grandeur and solace.
