 “02:10 The Early Years” is a collection of songs that I have handpicked from the early chapters of my career. This compilation includes songs from six studio albums: from my very first recordings in 2002, all the way up to the end of the decade in 2010.

My dad and I formed the band together in 1999, under the name RedEye Band, with my mum Heather acting as our manager. With my friend and neighbour Andy Burt on drums, and my father Ken on bass, we played at every pub, festival, town celebration, summer fête and wedding that would book us! By the time my first album, Watching You, was released, we were playing over 200 shows a year.

Looking back now, it seems like it all happened in a previous lifetime, as things so often do. Creating those early records feels like a long time ago now, and they serve perfectly as snapshots of each phase of our musical development. Becoming a professional musician was my dream – a dream that I was lucky enough to begin living at twenty years old. The life of a touring recording artist is full of highs and lows, obstacles and challenges, praise and criticism, and constant self improvement to do justice to yourself and, most importantly, your audience. It is a life that I truly love, and a path that I am very proud and thankful to still be on today, twenty one years since that first album.

Having the opportunity to put together a collection of my early work was something I could never have imagined happening all that time ago. Selecting the tracks to be included here was like revisiting old friends: each of them brings back such memories! From our first van (a red ex-postal bus that we painted yellow) to the laughs, challenges and goals chased along the way… I remember it all, and every beautiful memory brings a smile to my face. It was through these early albums and the long formative years of gigs and tours, recording sessions, travelling and writing that I learned to hone my craft – something that I have never stopped working tirelessly on. I sincerely hope that you enjoy what we have put together here, it has been a lot of fun.

 Big Harmonica Bob is "Spanning The Globe with the Blues".

These songs are really "Home Brewed Blues"...

With plenty of original harp blowin' and a good variety of original songs. Big Harmonica Bob has played at the "Legendary Buffalo Chip" in South Dakota for the last couple of years and that inspired the song... "My Wife Wants a Harley".

There are some instrumentals on this new C.D. that you might enjoy like "Pocket Fuzz" , "Corvette Susie" and "Wild Bill". They are all different, to say the least.

How many harp guys ever wrote a song about their best friend? "Mississippi Saxophone" is a tribute to that little friend that has traveled with us thru thick and thin .... here's to the "Sandwich made of Tin"!

I recorded "Fifty Bucks" a while back and it was played in England. I played all the instruments on that song as it was supposed to be a demo for the band to listen to. That led me to do this whole C.D. with me playing everything. I did this whole C.D. at my "Shack".

... I thought that I could capture the song ideas well enough to get them out of my head and out to you and do something that didn't sound quite like everybody else. I hope you will listen to these and enjoy them as much as I enjoyed doing them. These songs sound a bit different

than most standard blues songs ... kind of "Home Brewed Blues" ... but Blues none the less...

Regarded as one of the 20th Century’s greatest guitarists, Robben Ford’s credentials as both sideman and solo artist read like a musicians ’ Who’s Who.’ As a child he played the saxophone and by fourteen had taken up the guitar, playing with his brothers in the Charles Ford Blues Band. While still a teenager he was hired to play with bluesman Charlie Musselwhite, and also recorded with Jimmy Witherspoon. Having been a member of jazz fusion band L.A. Express and later the Yellowjackets, the Grammy Award nominee has collaborated with such musical heavyweights as Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, George Harrison, Gregg Allman, Rick Springfield, Little Feat and Kiss. Fast forward to the early 90s and Robben Ford and the Blue line (bassist Roscoe Beck, drummer Tom Brechtlein and pianist Bill Boublitz) had been touring internationally pretty much non-stop, playing mostly large venues, festivals and outdoor events. The band had always talked about how much they relished the intimacy of a small venue and the opportunity to stretch out musically and really open up. These recordings showcase their enjoyment. Recorded at Yoshi’s, the celebrated Oakland restaurant and jazz venue, this album – available for the first time – originates from the band’s appearances there during the week of 15-19 April 1996. Founded in 1972, Yoshi's opened as a sushi bar owned by Yoshie Akiba, alongside her two best friends Kaz Kajimura, a journalist and carpenter, and Hiroyuki Hori, a painter and Japanese cook. Since then, Yoshi’s has built itself into one of the world’s most respected jazz venues, earning a reputation as the Bay Area’s premier location for great Japanese cuisine and jazz music. The Red Mercury Blues Band - 'nothin purdy boutda blues' (2003)

 The Red Mercury Blues Band is one of Detroit's finest all original rockin' blues outfits! These guys are veterans of Detroit’s club circuits and have played in every blues club the city has or had. Bruce Iglauer of Alligator Records has said: "some good guitar playing here" and "I like the fact that the band is fun and unpretentious".

Steve Lawson - Songwriter, Vocalist and Rhythm Guitars is the son of 2 big band sax players. His father, who’s stage name was Paul Page, was a popular Canadian band leader who performed with the greats like Ella Fitzgerald. Patrick 'Guitar' Grendon -has been playing music since elementary school, first on trumpet then bass in the school jazz band and finally graduating from Berklee School of music on guitar! Jam Rag magazine lists him as one of the top guitarist in Detroit! Dave Jasmund – Bass and Upright Bass is as well known in the clubs as he is in the studio. A graduate of Oakland University’s music program and a veteran of late night gigs in the Motor City Dave’s prowess on the electric and upright is an awesome thing to witness. Drummer Frank Rolfs started drums as a small boy with a private tutor that came to the home. His first 2 years were nothing but snare drum technique! Frank has toured the USA, played in fusion, top 40 and many blues bands. A true master of all things swing and shuffle!

Jay Hooks - Jay Hooks (2000)

 Houston native Jay Hooks can stand shoulder to shoulder with the long list of Texas electric blues guitar legends he emulates. He grew up playing guitar on the Houston bar circuit throughout the late '70s and '80s, earning his stripes by playing in the shadow of local legends like Albert Collins and Billy Gibbons. Taking a nod from these sources, Hooks' was able to incorporate the highly typified electric blues/rock sound of Stevie Ray Vaughan with his affinity for more traditional blues influences. He received his first major exposure after he was asked to join Texas R&B die-hard "Miss" Lavelle White on a series of national tours. Hooks intermittently toured as White's guitarist for about a year before putting together a backing band and going solo in 1997. He went into the studio as a band leader and came out with his solo debut, Hooked Up. The album features a collection of gritty, rock-tinged electric blues numbers that didn't stray far outside the conventions that his aforementioned guitar heroes had brought into an international spotlight. That same spotlight also found Hooks at the end of the '90s when a European record executive by the name of Ed van Zyl heard the record and offered Hooks a contract with international marketing and distribution. The result of the contract was a self-titled sophomore effort that Hooks recorded under the guidance of producer Ben Elliot (whose resumé boasts the likes of Leslie West and Eric Clapton) for Provogue/Mascot Records. Jay Hooks' self-titled full-length recalled the strong regional traditions of Texas' super-charged blues and was released in the fall of 2000.

Electrofied - Bad Case of the Blues (2009)

 Electrofied's founder members, blues-guitar virtuoso, Tony Fazio and, the internationally acclaimed drummer/producer, Richard James Burgess are now powerfully augmented by soulful vocalist Scott Taylor (who had a number one club hit in the United Kingdom) and rock-solid Rob Rusteburg on bass. The band’s 2006 debut album, Sunday Morning Blues, featured highly-respected mid-Atlantic blues-shouter Lane Whigham and master-bassist Charles Solomon along with Fazio and Burgess. As things go the Sunday Morning Blues album was only the first chapter in the continuing story that is Electrofied. The power-quartet which is also known as the Electrofied Blues Band has played gigs featuring legendary writer/singer/blues harpist Charlie Sayles and powerhouse diva Nadine Rae. Taylor, Fazio, Burgess and Rusteburg have just completed recording a brand-new, all-original album in Deja Vu studios which is currently being mixed and is slated for release in 2008.

It's an easy show to identify, SRV has some problems with feedback (the kind guitar players *don't* want!) during "Pride and Joy", but it doesn't detract at all from this terrific recording. The titles on the CD jacket are hilariously wrong - "Love House" is actually "Rude Mood", "Colletti's Torch Song" (WHERE did they get THAT?) is "Wham!"."

A load of new original songs in different styles. It was fun to produce away from the usual blues/rock format and to try out other arrangements and instrumentations.

This is the long playing version of "The New Adventures of Flamingstratman & Mrsdrums" including 8 more tracks and another running order than the EP version.

Nick Becattini - Pistoia Blues (2003)

 As a regular frequenter of the Pistoia Blues Festival, he joined Giancarlo Crea's Model T. Boogie band in 1986, selected for the 1987 Chicago Blues Festival, which allowed him to go on stage together with artists such as Albert King, Johnny Copeland or Phil Guy.

In 1990, after the experience with Model T. Boogie with whom he released two albums, he leaves Italy to move to Chicago where he plays with local blues artists such as Son Seals, Melvin Taylor, Sugar Blue. He returned to Italy in 1993 where he joined Mimmo Mollica's Blues Harbor. He then plays on Ollie Nightingale's album Live at Campanile. In 1994 he founded his own group: Nick Becattini & Serious Fun with whom he first released a studio album of the same name in 1995, nominated by Musica Jazz as the best group of the year and then a live album, Funky People - Live! in 1997.

He then collaborates with Peaches Staten with whom he releases two albums (Nick & Peaches Live at Blue Sun and Time Will Tell), and during his travels to Chicago, together with his wife Renita Cameron, with Carl Weatherby and Pinetop Perkins. In 1998 he released his second studio album Unleaded for Club de Musique, and two years later with Caterina Vichi with whom he recorded Uffizi blues.

In 2003 he released his third solo studio album Pistoia Blues on Bluesin Records. In 2009 Nick Becattini & the Nickettes returns with a new group and a new album.

In 2013 the collaboration with the singer Ty Le Blanc begins, with which two works are released: Leblanc of 2013 produced by Gianluca Di Maggio by Trasimeno Blues, with Pippo Guarnera and Vince Vallicelli, and a live of 2014 Blues Shadows.

During this period he intensified his collaboration with Bluesin 'both as a teacher and as a participant in the festival.

In 2020 he released a new album Lifetime Blues (Saifam) reviewed best Italian blues album of the year.

Coco Montoya - Gotta Mind To Travel (1994)

                                                                      Coco Montoya
 Montoya's career began in the mid 1970s when Albert Collins asked him to join his band as drummer. Collins took Montoya under his wing and taught him his "icy hot" guitar style. The two remained friends even after Montoya left Collins' band.

In the early 1980s John Mayall heard Montoya playing guitar in a Los Angeles bar. Soon after Mayall asked Montoya to join the newly reformed Bluesbreakers. He remained a member of the band for 10 years.

In 1995 he appeared with the Cate Brothers for the resumption of their recording career on their release, Radioland. Since that same year, Montoya has recorded several solo albums.

In 2002, he featured on the Bo Diddley tribute album Hey Bo Diddley – A Tribute!, performing the song "Pills."

His 2019 recording, Coming In Hot, was chosen as a 'Favorite Blues Album' by AllMusic.

Dom’s sound is a edgy take on Texas roots music composed with his raspy mellow southern vocals, played with overdriven guitars and supported by a strong moving rhythm section. Taking inspiration from artists such as The Allman Brothers, Whisky Meyers and Blackberry Smoke; Dom Cours & Company lands solidly in the genre for Southern Rock! 

With eight years of Military service in the United States Army, three years of which were combat time in Iraq as an Infantryman, Dom is darkly aware of the mental health issues facing the Veteran community today. Because of this Dom is a stanch advocate for mental health. Struggling himself with PTSD, traumatic brain injury. Dom believes that music rescued him from the demons left behind by the trauma of war. Music has since, gifted him with a noble purpose in his life and he hopes to share that with the world.

Otis and the Elevators - Dark of the Night (2012)

 Otis grew up listening to country, and rock, and was introduced to the blues in his late teens. He first started jamming weekly with other musicians in 1990, calling their group Blues Stew. They did their first gig at Alberto’s in Bennington in December of 1990. After learning about 45 songs they were ready to play around the Monadnock region. Their first gig was in 1993 at the Rynborn in Antrim as Otis and the Elevators. “We changed our name to Otis and the Elevators because I became the front man. And it was a play on words from the elevator company.”

Otis ran the jam at the Rynborn for over ten years. They were voted Favorite Blues Jam six times by Blues Audience newsletter. Part of these jams included legendary Chicago bluesman Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson, who had moved from the Windy City to New England and formed his band, the Magic Rockers.  “Skip Philbrick and Peter Kabala got Luther to come to Rynborn and we would do weekly jams,” Otis recalls. “At the time I had been playing drums for three years for the Skip Philbrick Blues Band.  Then in 1995, after playing drums with him all summer, Luther asked me to join the Magic Rockers as the drummer.  I didn’t feel I was ready so I declined.  But I told him if he wanted a harmonica player, call me.  And twenty years later, he did.  I’ve been playing harp with him for the past four years.”

Otis is the only original member of Otis and the Elevators.  The current line-up includes Dave Brown on bass and vocals for 12 years, Jeremy Brown on piano for 15 years, CJ Chaplin on drums for five years, and Tom Wright, guitar player for four years, although he played for a year in 1999. “The band members are like family,” says Otis.  “They are a talented band.”  He describes the band’s genre of music as Americana – ranging from rock, bluegrass, and jazz to country, blues, and folk. “We notice who is in the crowd and play music we think they will like.”

Many of the band’s gigs these days are benefits for people needing help with medical and living expenses due to illness, accidents or other circumstances.  “I like to do benefits. I do them a lot; it’s a good way to use your talent to give back to the community. We love what we do so it’s not hard. And we get to see our friends in other bands and play with them.” In 2012, Otis and the Elevators released their first CD, Dark of the Night. All but two cuts are written by Otis or the band.

Big Bone Daddy - Got It (2020)

 Big Bone Daddy goes for a southern fried swagger on the effortlessly cool “Got It”. A playful sensibility informs the entirety of the album. The exploration of an entire way of life comes to define the work. Group play dominates the whole of the album for every instrument bounces off each other resulting a communal experience. Storytelling rests at the heart of the whole thing for Big Bone Daddy proves to be a compelling narrator. Over the course of the album he inspires nostalgia, reflection, confidence, and so much more. With this emotional range he crafts a series of small vignettes when taken together come up to make a life.

The gorgeous glistening grooves of “All I Got to Say” introduces the album and sets the tone. Playful piano work runs through the honky-tonk stylings of “Let’s Go Back”. Elements of psychedelic emerge on the swampy rhythms of “Dow Low”. Ambitious and sprawling “Let it Bleed” builds up in a fantastic, universal way, with the saxophone serving as a fine touch. On “It Hurts me Too” things slow down to the pace of molasses for a reflective moment. Done with such grace “Promised Land” offers glimmers of sheer joy. With the title track “Got It” Big Bone Daddy offer up their catchiest piece. Harmonica gives “Come to Me” a rustic charm. Giddy to its core “Ole Hound Dog” closes the album off.

The band called DESPERADO 5 has been rocking stages around the world since 1994. Initially there were smaller gigs in clubs, but soon there were larger festivals in Berlin, Germany and in Europe such as Spain, France, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Belgium.

Texas Slim - That's Who I Am (2014)

 Roaring out of the speakers with the upbeat “Sweet Tooth Blues”, it is immediately obvious that this is an album of high energy, guitar-driven blues as Slim declares his love for his lady at the same time as he sings of his love for unhealthy food. “Bring me a strawberry shortcake, and a double banana split. Bring yourself and two spoons, I may let you have some of it. Well, I love your deserts, but you’re the sweet I want the most. I got a sweet tooth for you, baby.” One can only assume that his lady keeps him slim by working the calories off him at night.

Featuring 16 songs (all written by Slim himself, except for the sole cover of Frank Frost’s “Jelly Roll King”), That’s Who I Am features a wide variety of modern blues styles, from the funky, Albert Collins-esque “Every Time I Go To Houston” and the swing of “Lazy Girl” to the slow minor key blues of “Coyote Moon Blues”. It includes three instrumentals: the Freddie King-influenced “Rock Hauler”; “Attack Of The Mosquitoes”, which has a hint of Dick Dale’s version of “Miserlou”; and “Lightning Boogie” which recalls some of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s wilder instrumentals. Texas Slim may not be saying anything new on this release, but what he says is energetic, exciting and just downright fun.

That’s Who I Am is Slim’s fifth solo album, although he has also appeared on two albums by Wanda King as well as the “Blues Explosion” guitar summit CD with Vivian Vance Kelley and Andy Just in 2011. He is both a fine, expressive singer and an unreserved guitar slinger, drawing a warm, fat Les Paul tone from his guitar. He can also pen good songs. He is ably supported by Kenny Stern (Slim’s drummer for 31 years) and Bill Cornish on bass (something of a newcomer, having only played with Slim for the last 20 years). Cornish and Stern are a rock solid rhythm section, who nail down a driving groove whilst still offering subtle rhythmic variations that keep the songs interesting. Stern’s alternating drum rhythms on “Rock Hauler” in particular add fresh layers to the song.

Brian “Hash Brown” Calway adds harmonica to the relaxed shuffle of “Have A Coffee With Me” and “Jelly Roll King”, but this record is primarily the sound of a trio recorded almost live (eight of the songs have no overdubs at all) and Paul Osborn and Texas Slim deserve credit for capturing on CD the energy of what is clearly a first class roadhouse band.

Robert Sullivan was apparently given the nickname “Texas Slim” in 1982 by the late, eccentric piano legend, Alex Moore, himself a native of the Lone Star State. It is a fitting nom de stage. Slim wears his Texan influences on his sleeve, but he also wears them lightly.  The most obvious role model is probably Johnny Winter, although Slim takes a more melodic approach to his solos, which suggests he has absorbed a lot of Freddie King as well. “Love Somebody” could have appeared on an early ZZ Top album, and “Lightning Boogie” is a loving nod to both Lightnin’ Hopkins and SRV.

Recorded in Dallas, Texas, in October 2013 at Audio Dallas, That’s Who I Am features very impressive packaging with a gatefold CD and is a highly enjoyable album of guitar-driven modern electric blues.
