The release, Beat A Demon, by Rock-n-Rick Patterson opens with the title track, Beat A Demon, Patterson releases a bluesy voodoo track that will stick to you. With a voice like Captain Beefheart and a melody that could come out of a Screamin Jay album, Patterson really does have some cool guitar riffs and effects. St. Louis Girl is an animated swing blues with Patterson and Nick Schnebelen on guitar, accompanied by Kris Schnebelen on drums and Danielle Schenebelen on bass. I've been thinking "you have a cool bass line that really defines the track really well. A more contemporary blues rock style makes it practical for wide play and the hook is solid. Don't Have To Worry is a blues sophisticated rock track infused with delta roots, arrogant guitar work and local percussion. Sonny Kenner is a storytelling track. I've always liked tracks like this (Billy The Mountain, Mind Bender, Jack The Toad, to name a few) and Patterson likes a very good job, praised by James Whitney on the keys. A funky track, Still In The Game, gives Patterson a cool groove to play and play that he does. Some of the best guitar work (as well as instrumentation) on the launch is on this track ... think Steely Dan. In the rockin 'boogie, Don't Need No Woman, Patterson takes a more direct blues attack and ready rock riffs. The launch ends with Evil Train returning a full circle for a sensation resemblance and the first track with smooth, greasy guitar riffs and swampy vocals.
