AWEK - Burnin Wire On South Lamar (2007)
AWEK
In April 2007, the band from Toulouse in southern France realized a dream. She traveled to Austin, Texas to record her new album under the direction of Stuart Sullivan, the sound engineer who recorded the first Fabulous Thunderbirds LP. With great self-confidence, the French present thirteen of their own titles, which stylistically cover a wide range of blues. Singer Bernard Sellam shapes the band's music with his excellent voice, which at times resembles Tad Robinson. I hear Texas and Chicago influences, but also jazzy arrangements, a little Louisiana swamp blues. But above all, the craft is fascinating. The name may sound exotic, but AWEK plays absolutely authentically.
