Blues band (Blues) from Carinthia; Founded in 1983 as an originally pure amateur band with D. Themel (vocals), Arthur Ottowitz (harmonica), Jörg Frießnegg (guitar), Norbert Eipeltauer (guitar), Ernst Wallisch (saxophone), Oscar Huber (bass) and Reinhold Habernig (drums ). The band, which took its name from the famous British 1960s blues band (John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers), has been recording electronic records on a regular basis since 1986, mostly with their own compositions in English (initially also in German). In 1987 Freddy Zitter switched to drums. In 1989, as one of the first western music groups, the B. undertook a highly regarded concert tour through the People's Republic of China at the invitation of the Chinese Center of Art and Culture (documented on CD and video), followed by tours in the USA, Hong Kong, North and South Africa. With the composition Yellow Moon (see example), which was inspired by the China tour, the B. briefly reached a wider audience beyond the blues scene (for five weeks No. 1 in the Austrian charts, six weeks in the top 10 of the international ones Charts), a success that they could not follow up on later. In 1993 the B. toured Morocco with Andy Lee Lang & Band and Big Jay McNeely. The 10th anniversary was celebrated with the CD C’mon. In 1995 N. Eipeltauer left the band. Further tours followed through China, the USA and Europe. 1998–2003 Dolfi Kandler was the band's drummer and was replaced in 2003 by Mario Kofler. In the same year Helmut Spreitzer took over the position on bass. In 2006, Kiki Oswald made the last change on drums to date. The last album Recorded Live for the 25th anniversary was nominated for the “German Record Critics' Award”.
