 Flatwound is a band from southeastern Connecticut made up of five guys who live to play the Blues. It's a collaboration of five people with one goal: to write their own songs and not follow the path of other cover bands in the region. Flatwound grew out of a weekly stress relief channel. Mike Jones coming from North Stonington CT on lead guitar, really rocks with his theoretical background and days of burning with Rock. Tate Tomis of Preston Ct. On rhythm guitar, he adds smooth, sensual tones, sings backing vocals and writes lyrics. John Cripps on bass, with 30 years of experience, is a talented musician who excels with booming tones and smooth, solid baselines, also joining as backing vocalist and lyricist. Gary Paul from Norwich Ct is the man who takes these lyrics and makes them cry, has an alternative background and other genres. Bill Hewes of Pawcatuck Ct, the drummer, keeps everything in rhythm and is the backbone of the group. Each has varying abilities and a multitude of talents that coalesce into the musical melting pot that the world can now call Flatwound. Since they emerged, they have worked hard to find their true musical identity and unique style. Although their influences are spread across all musical genres, they collectively feel that all blues musicians are considered influential. With that said, this band does not play cover music. Their music is truly theirs. It also belongs not only to them but also to open-minded music lovers. The band is assisted by a road crew consisting of Richard Cripps who sets up and also sings backing vocals, Clint Verville who records sound lighting and backing vocals and Wendy Lloyd's communications coordinator, sales promotions and the occasional lyric. Steppin' Out is their first release and it's going fantastically. It's a live recording without an audience. No artificial fillers or added flavors. Their main hope is that you have as much fun listening to them as they did during the two years they contributed to writing, rewriting, and recording their original songs. It's Blues with a different flavor.
