Jony James Blues Band - What About Tomorrow (2006)

                                                             Jony James Blues Band
Distinctive, exciting & intelligent are the words that come to mind when asked to describe the songs, singing & guitar playing of Jony (pronounced John-nie) James. Born in Buffalo & raised in Chicago (where he played with Chicago Blues legends Eddie Taylor & J.B. Hutto), Jony learned Blues guitar listening to Albert King, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy & B.B. King. While these are influences, Jony’s Blues are his own.
Based in Buffalo, where he has lived the last 20 years, Jony has the support of one of the toughest & tightest rhythm sections on the planet. Together for 5 solid years of 200+ gigs a year, Rod & Kent give Jony the solid 100% support on & off the stage. After honing his chops through years of touring & backing other artists. Jony’s got the band that’s with him every step of the way.

The Jony James Blues Band (pronounced John-nie) dares to be different. Throw any preconceived notions out the window and open your mind & ears to the sounds of some truly inspired songwriting and tasty playing from this Buffalo, N.Y. trio. Jony’s original compositions are contemporary blues rooted songs. Jony’s wonderfully inventive guitar skills are as good as anyone on the current scene but the notes are played to serve the song. And Jony’s songs are what sets him ahead of the bluespack. There’s plenty of great guitar playing on this disc but dig the words & music too. “What About Tomorrow” is a great listening experience and a breath of fresh air in the stale blues market of today.

Influences: Otis Rush, Eddie Taylor, Albert King, BB King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, Sun Ra, John Coltrane ...
