Jay Asling came to guitar quite by chance. At age 18 a friend sold him a pawn ticket on a 1960s Goya, “..with lots of weird buttons.” Jay picked up the guitar from the shop and was drafted shortly thereafter. While serving his mandatory military service he spent his time in the basement learning Peter Green and Carlos Santana licks. “I wasn’t their favorite soldier.”
Asling managed to move on from the basement to found a swing/blues big band, Sir Jay and his Blues Orchestra combining a hard swinging horn section with a raw semi acoustic guitar sound, and being dubbed by Blues Matters magazine, "Sweden's King of the Blues". With this line up Jay became well known on the European blues circuit playing clubs and festivals all over Europe. In between Jay found his way into the studio. His first effort, “Let’s Jump Tonight” , a tribute to T-Bone Walker. Then came “Blues for Uncle Sam”, Asling’s first foray into a record of his original material. A strong and inventive storyteller, Jay’s songs attracted as much attention as his critically praised guitar and vocals.
