Ralph & The Big Bang Group
Eslöv blues festival's big man Ralph Svensson is not only an excellent festival organizer, he has also been part of the group Ralph & the Big Bang Group for many years. This is the sixth album they have released, the first came as early as 1990. The band consists of Ralph Svensson drums and vocals, Susanne Edlund vocals, Lasse Persson guitar and Jerker Allgulander on bass and vocals. A close and cohesive group, which is also noticeable in the fact that they wrote nine of the album's 15 songs.
They themselves describe the album as a mix of blues, soul and a bit of country. And that's right. The album opens with a little modern blues written by Susanne Edlund. She sings in a nice hoarse voice and brings out a pleasant feeling without having to touch the king and motherland. Edlund then sings on five more songs, she does them all well, however, I wish she had chosen a different soul ballad than the now slightly sung I'd Rather go Blind. Guitarist Lasse Person plays a bit as Susanne Edlund sings, he also does not have to take in for king and motherland to show emotion. In Jerker Allgulander's Everybody´s, Persson strikes with a really nice lyrical guitar solo.
Ralph Svensson himself lays a solid foundation on his drums, he also sings on six songs and his short-cut voice gives a good variation to Edlund's more elegant singing.
A nice laid-back blues record where the modern electric blues sounds better than the acoustic excursions and country flirts.
