Al “Wailin” Walker was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada and is well known for his infectious brand of Rockin’ Rhythm and Blues. His stunning electric guitar solos and commanding vocals have been thrilling large crowds for more than 4 decades.

The first recording of Wailin Walker was with his band The Houserockers in 1978. Since then, three outstanding rock n' blues recordings of the Wailin Walker Band, "The Devil Made Me Play It", "Buzzsaw Boogie" and "Crazy at Night", have been released. The "Devil Made Me Play It", released under Double Trouble in Amsterdam, climbed to the top of the blues charts in the Netherlands, Spain and Australia.

Walker has played with and been personally mentored by many great artists such as Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Pee Wee Crayton and Otis Rush .

As leader, guitarist and singer of the Wailin Walker Band, Walker has shared the stage with Johnny Winter, George Thorogood and Stevie Ray Vaughan to name a few. He continues to work with a tight rhythm section... that keeps dance floors packed....

Jimmy Spacek - Sweet Texas Soul (1997)

Jimmy Spacek, a native of San Antonio, is an instinctive guitarist, who presents his third album here. Recognized as a virtuoso, he presents a beautiful calling card being named in 1996 best guitarist, and in 1997 best blues artist. And, listening to this 1997 cd, we start off on the floor on "eagle", distortions and wha-wha full the tank, before letting go a little ballast on a "paying the price" much more chirping. Everything is captivating, and in a superb sound, the intensity of titles like "jealous hand" "sweet texas blues" or "blues man" will not escape you. For a too short album (11 tracks - 39'O7mn) Jimmy Spacek leaves us hungry, we would take an extension! extra!

The Woodhowlers - Back Alley Groove (2017)

Smokin' on out of Sweden, The WoodHowlers return with "Back Alley Groove". This CD features more of the Chicago blues in which this band is steeped. The members are the cream-of-the-crop on the Swedish blues scene and just on listen will confirm that. The guitar weaves and winds its way through the tunes with some tasty vibes that cannot be denied. Add in the fabulous harmonica, in-the-pocket bass and drums and super songwriting and you have all you need to settle into the groove. "Back Alley Groove" is tough without being overly coarse. We dig it totally!

Jimmy Spacek - Peace & Distortion (2016)

Jimmy Spacek "PEACE & DISTORTION" captures a fire and soul that emerges from those fine guitar players who came before and those out in the world, serving up captivating music covered in a special Texas sauce. His playing sports a unique style that weaves blues, rock, and soul together with an explosive knockout punch. Jimmy's songwriting is also front and center with lyrics chanting hard-edged blues themes with driving guitar; but also digs deeper on "Broken Man"; about a military veteran who finds himself out on the street. And "Peacemaker" which echo's the never ending quest for peace...plus a cry for a better understanding of our common goals and needs on "Division Fare".

Jimmy grew up on the South Side of San Antonio picking up the guitar at age 14.  This area of town also gave birth to many influential Texas artists- Augie Meyers, Doug Sahm and Randy Garibay. Seeking out their music and other great talents like Johnny Winter, Delbert McClinton, and ZZ Top;  these artists helped shape his musical vocabulary…as he puts it, "I got to hang out and listen and steal a lick or two" this quote also referring to two of SA's premier rock bands (from the same neighborhood); The Cave Dwellers and The Aggressors. In high school Jimmy helped form The Undecided Mynd, playing a mix of 60's artists:  The Doors, Monkees, Rightious Brothers, The Animals and Jimi Hendrix...Jimmy being one of a few guitar players at that time playing Hendrix.

Shortly after high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the tail end of the Vietnam War and although he never actually served in Vietnam, he absorbed the stress and the (unappreciated) vibe from returning soldiers. Some of that feeling and pain can be heard in Jimmy's playing and lyrics to this day. While stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, he passed the time performing throughout the state with a couple of bands and jamming with soldiers from all over the U.S. After his three year stint was completed and a troubled marriage ending, moving back to San Antonio was in order. From there he hit the road with the Texas Homegrown Band touring from Texas to Canada, down to Florida and back, playing Southern Rock with a Texas twist.

After several years on the road and back in Texas, Jimmy began working with a few local bands playing a bit of everything and fronting on tried and true blues standards like Born Under A Bad Sign, Stormy Monday and a slightly newer Jimi Hendrix classic, Red House. His soulful playing gained the attention of fans and received rave reviews from local music writers. It was during this time he got to perform with his early local heroes, Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers. 

Growing tired of playing cover music, songwriting became a priority for Jimmy. He hooked up with an established rhythm section, Mike Muniz (Bass) and Bill Huedepohl (Drums) to help form Roller; a hot three piece Cream-style rocking blues outfit and started performing his original tunes. Roller earned a strong following in San Antonio and South Texas opening shows for such diverse artists as Lou Ann Barton and Derek & the Dominos alumni, Bobby Whitlock.

From there Jimmy teamed with two of his old high school buddies, Rick Zeinert (Bass) and Tom Callender (Drums) creating a new trio sporting a jam-band feel, digging deep into blues based themes; all with an original touch developing a sound they dubbed "bluesion". Jimmy took this new band, Jimmy Spacek & The Fever, into the studio and recorded "EASY COME, EASY GO" gaining international attention and distribution in Germany, France and Norway.

The albums "SOONER OR LATER" & "SWEET TEXAS SOUL" followed with the later released in Europe via the DixieFrog label. Sweet Texas Soul also featured guest appearances from Delbert McClinton (Harp) and Reese Wynans (Hammond B-3). Jimmy was now touring Europe and sharing the stage with some of the best:  B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Joe Walsh, Roy Buchanan, Jimmie Vaughan, Leon Russell, Albert Collins, Delbert McClinton, Creedence Clearwater, George Thorogood, Johnny Copeland, Chris Duarte, Barbara Lynn, James Cotton, Lonnie Mack and Rick Derringer.

"NO TURNING BACK" came around with a slight nod to Jimi Hendrix on tap, plus guest appearance's by Delbert McClinton, Lee Roy Parnell, Augie Meyers and Denny Mathis.  The tracks are solid and were mixed by engineer Richard Mullen, (known for his work with Eric Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughan) bringing out his distinctive playing style and driving guitar.

And now this new batch of raw, solid sounds on"PEACE & DISTORTION", affirms Jimmy Spacek as one of the elite guitarist's emerging from the Lone Star State.

Jimmy and the Sleepers - C'est la vie (2012)

Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-Jimmy and the Sleepers are a gritty, no-nonsense, genuine house rockin' blues band that has been making a splash on the Western Canadian blues scene. Since the release of their self-titled CD, (available here now) Jimmy and the Sleepers have been smoldering mostly underground, but are more ready than ever to burn out of the frozen Alberta north and showcase their Edmonton-styled blues to the world. Brother Bob White with Dave Keller - Never Grow Old - Gospel Organ from Kansas City (2014)

Brother Bob White is a living treasure. Eighty-five years young, he is one of the very last of the ‘old school’ gospel organists. For almost 60  years he has provided the musical foundation for churches throughout the greater Kansas City area. This is his first recording. James Harman Band - Live In Germany (with Gene Taylor Band) (2012)

James Harman is a senior member of the first wave of white American musicians who entered the blues during the 1960s, starting when he was only sixteen. With a pasted-on mustache, he was slipped into black night clubs in Panama City, Florida, promoted as "That boy who sings like a man. Within a year, he started his own band. In the years to follow, he restarted several times by moving to Chicago, New York, Miami, New Orleans and, finally, California. He ran an ongoing business, recording and touring all the way through 2000, at which time he gave up carrying his own band everywhere and started taking only fly-in festival dates and being backed by different groups of players everywhere. Although he is today generally associated with the west coast sound, he has remained loyal to his Alabama roots. This can be heard in many of the lyrical tales he spins in his songs.

In this forty year career he recorded thirty records, with his first released in 1964 in Atlanta, Georgia. He had nine singles (45 RPM) out in the 1960s before releasing an LP. "Some were CDs after that technology became the standard. Some have been re-released as CDs, but most were records," Harman says He has recorded under a host of assumed names. He has worked as King James and the Royals, Disciples of Blues, Soul's Disciples, Icepick James and The Rattlesnakes, Snake Doctor, HUBB and, finally, Icehouse Blues Band when he came to California. He eventually accepted some advice given to him by B. B. King in 1972, and " became myself the blues artist, not some made-up name.

Seventeen of his songs have appeared in movie soundtracks. Most recently he played harp on the soundtrack for the movie The Dukes of Hazzard (2005), with ZZ Top's guitarist, Billy Gibbons.

As for awards, he has either been nominated for, or has won, as he says "Well let's just say far too many [awards] to remember and certainly too many to list here."

After forty years, he is still a vital and contributing member of the blues community. Today he recognized as one of the very finest blues harpists in the world, one of today's most brilliant lyricists, a prolific songwriter, a moralist and a philosopher. And if you have ever seen him perform live you know he is still rocks the house with the best musicians half his age.

Trube Farrell Sniz - Recorded Live - Continental Gallery Austin, Texas (2011)

It all came together on a Whim in 2005 when the Greyhounds ( Andrew Trube And Anthony Farrell ) were asked to play the ACL Festival. ACL had a contract / agreement that the band would not play local Gigs within a certain period of weeks prior to the ACL Festival. At that time Steve W from the Continental Club was
doing a remodel of the upstairs now called the Gallery. Steve had asked the guys if they would be interested in playing Wednesday nights upstairs at the Gallery. The guys needed a place to play but had to play under a different name. They needed a drummer so they asked Snizz to sit in. they have been playing there as Trube Farell & Snizz every Wednesday since - except for the weeks that Andrew and Anthony are on tour with JJ Grey and Mofro. Snizz holds down the Wednesday night Gig when they are sporadically gone with some of the funkiest players in town.

Dave Snizz Robinson Is from Tulsa ok. Has Lived in Austin for 21 years. Toured with the Loose Diamonds in the early 90's. The original Drummer for the Ugly Americans and The Scabs. Projects invloved with, recorded with, and toured with include Bob Schneider, Texas Bluegrass massacre, Papa Mali, Jerkuleez, Soul Hat, Toni Price, Will Bernard, Topaz, The Greyhounds, The Resentments, Stephan Bruton, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, bruce Hughes.

Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies are one of the most popular bands, blues or otherwise, in the Pacific Northwest. Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies strength lies in its original blues songs and choice of obscure blues covers that meld together into a Texas meets Chicago meets Pacific Northwest blues stew. The WBS has honored the band with 39 'BB' Award nominations since 2005. Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies has won 13 of those awards, including 'Best Blues Band' in 2006 and 2007 and 'Best Blues Recording' of 2008 for their 2nd CD release, Big City Blues. Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies has been nominated twice for 'Muddy' Awards by Oregon's Cascade Blues Association in the 'Best Regional Band' category in 2007 and 2008, winning the award in 2008. Viewers of Seattle's King 5 TV (NBC) voted the band 'The Best Band in Western Washington' in 2008, out of 279 nominated bands of all musical styles! They placed 2nd in 2009 out of over 400 bands for that same award. The Inland Empire Blues Society named Big City Blues as the 'Best Blues Recording' of 2007.

This is high energy, low down, blues-to-the-bone from The Pacific Northwest. In other words, Texas-meets-Chicago-meets-Pacific Northwest style blues at it's finest.

Mick Clarke - Hamburg Live '95 (2019)

Mick writes: Back in the 1990s the Mick Clarke Band was pretty busy. We were touring regularly across Europe, particularly in Switzerland, Austria, Italy, The Netherlands and Germany. In March 1995 we returned to Hamburg.

This is a recording of our show at a club in Hamburg called The Honigfabrik - literally an old honey factory. It's still there, actually, but more of a culture centre than a rock'n'roll venue. The band is 3 piece, featuring my good friends the mighty Mick Hawksworth on bass and Chris Sharley on drums. Mick is very sadly no longer with us, but Chris is still rockin' on the drums. Mick was once described, very accurately as a force of nature.. that's about right. Chris Sharley is simply a fuckin' good drummer. I've been very lucky to have worked with both of these fine musicians over the years. I'm not worthy.

The set was given to me as a cassette recording, taken from the sound engineer's desk. It's a bit dodgy in places, so apologies to headphone listeners if you have to follow it around a bit, but I've done what I can to improve the quality. Still far from perfect, but I think it's worth a listen, because it is a record of how we were at that time, and is, I think, a lively and entertaining 40 minutes - some track by track notes below.

It's funny listening back. My style has changed a bit over the years and I would not do things the same way now.. however I think we did a good show for the audiences we were playing for at the time. Good times, never to be repeated.

So pour a beer, turn the volume up and come with us back to a rockin' Friday night in Hamburg 1995. I hope you enjoy the music.

That's Alright

I was once told that you should never start a live album with a fade-in. Well.. here we go again. I couldn't help it because the first part of the song was missing on the cassette and then the next bit was all wobbly. But I thought that the soloing etc was quite exciting and worth keeping. Anyway, just imagine you've turned up late and the band's already playing as you walk in .. we've all done it. That's Alright by Jimmy Rogers.. still a favourite.

Backseat Blues

Another track from the "No Compromise" album.. our current release at the time. Romps along at an improbable pace. Mick H displays his virtuosity throughout, especially the call and answer at the end.

Produce Row

Back in the 80s we did a lot of work in the USA - based in Portland Oregon. A couple of times the great John lee Hooker came through - he was touring regularly up and down the West Coast. So of course we went to see him. He played at the Starry Night which was a really nice large concert hall - big enough to generate a vibe but not so big as to lose the vibe.. I hope you understand. So we were filled up with the boogie, as my friend Rod remarked on another occasion. And we walked home through Produce Row where the trucks and trains came in to collect the fruit and veg for distribution around the area, and yes, I think a train came through while we were there, although I don't think I engaged the driver in conversation. Back over the Hawthorne Bridge to my friend Michael Kearsey's house where we were staying. Great times.

Mean Old World

The T Bone Walker song. My guitar at the time had mismatched pickups so I was able to get a pleasing out of phase tone if I set the controls in a certain way.. sounds nice. Very P.A.Green but, well, you have to, don't you?

You Need Love

Well I've been playing this song since 1968 - first with Killing Floor and then my own band. It was actually the first ever Muddy Waters track that I bought - Earl Hooker on guitar - fantastic. Anyway this version definitely rocks.. as good a three piece flat out version as I've ever recorded, so here it is. I can't play that fast any more.. arthritis.. but that's OK. It's good to listen to this stuff and go back a few years.. 25?

Gypsy Woman

Another favourite Muddy Waters tune.. it's got a nice little melody and good lyric. Always fun to play and still in the set today.

Crazy 'bout a Woman

Dedicated to Wife Linda .. always crazy 'bout that woman. "She walks into the club, don't have to pay - she walks up to the band and tells them how to play".. Yup, that's Lin. A nice piece of rock'n'roll dating from the late 80s.. in the middle I go a bit nuts and play a medley of a few things that amuse me.. a bit of Freddie's "San Hozay" (sort of).. a bit of Peter Gunne.. a bit of the hall of the Mountain King (Grieg I believe).. all good fun. It's Rock'n'Roll.. and I still like it.

Jamie Wood & The Roadhouse Rockets ‎– Flyin' High (1998)

Jamie Wood's CD featuring Johnny Rover, called "Flyin 'High", was recorded with great California blues musicians like Carl Sonny Leyland on piano, Nathan James on guitar, Tyler Pedersen on bass, Johnny Morgan and Hal Smith on drums , Ron Dziubla on saxophone, Bill Churchville on trumpet and Anita Thomas on clarinet. In songs like Early In The Morning, Gone Too Long, No Sweat and This Can't Be Love, Jamie Wood demonstrates why she is considered one of the California Swing Blues divas.
