The album was recorded in Trondheim and further co-produced/mixed by Peter Lundell and consists of 10 very strong songs in the blues/bluesrock genre. The collaboration with Peter Lundell started after Peter was the sound engineer for the band at the Nidaros Blues Festival 2010.

Bjørn Varpen has written most of the songs himself, while bassist Jon Krogstad contributes 3 of the songs.

THIS IS NOW is Varpen Band’s first album since the EP “VARPEN” which came out in 2004 and is the band’s first full-length album. On the new album you can hear that the band has gone through quite a big change since then. The song material is of high quality and the musical achievements are on a completely different level. The band’s project with the album is to play with the blues/bluesrock genre to find their own expression that can be described as unique in blues-Norway.

Varpen Band: won the 2004 Union Bluescup at the Notodden Blues Festival, popularly known as the Norwegian Blues Championship.

The band has since toured the country at blues clubs and festivals, including: Notodden Blues Festival, Nidaros Blues Festival, Træna Festival, Oslo Jazz Festival, Dark Season Blues Festival, Hemnes Jazz and Blues Festival, Smeltedigelen, Jordunst Festival, Voss Roots and Blues Festival, Muddy Waters, Stavanger Blues Club, Asker Blues Club, Bodø Blues Club, Hell Blues Club, Verdal Blues Club etc.

Foreign festivals: Åmål Blues Festival, Sweden and Blues Autour du Zinc, France.

Bjørn Varpen: Bjørn is a self-taught blues guitarist from Finneidfjord in Nordland. In addition to being one of the best guitarists in the genre, he is also considered one of the foremost Hendrix interpreters in the country. He showed this to the fullest in his side project: Blue flames of Jimmy James, a collaboration with Vidar Busk. Bjørn has also collaborated with talents such as Claes Yngstrøm, Hungry John and Knut Reiersrud.
