Michael Lee Smith - One Night Only (2023)

                                                               Michael Lee Smith
As the heavy wooden door creaked open, a gust of wind swept through, carrying with it the scent of aged leather and a faint hint of cigarette smoke. The atmosphere inside the bar was thick, filled with a dimly lit ambiance that seemed to have settled over the years. The sound of distant chatter and clinking glasses permeated the air.

Stepping inside, the visitor's eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness, revealing a space frozen in time. The bar's worn wooden counter, etched with countless marks and memories, stretched out along the left side. Time-worn bar stools stood guard, their red cushions cracked and faded.

A solitary figure in the back corner caught the newcomer's attention. Bathed in a soft glow cast by a flickering overhead light, a man sat on a small stage, his hunched form enveloped by the shadows. Strands of silver hair framed his weathered face, telling tales of a life fully lived.

With calloused fingers, the man played a guitar, each note resonating through the room like a whispered secret. His eyes were closed, lost in the music he was weaving, his playing raw and soulful. The music hung in the air, painting stories of heartache, longing, and forgotten dreams.

The bar patrons, captivated by the man's performance, leaned in closer, their eyes transfixed on the stage. Some wore expressions of nostalgia, while others seemed transported to distant memories. The strains of the guitar intertwined with the murmurs of conversation, creating a harmony that seemed to echo through the years.

The visitor, drawn by the allure of the music, made their way toward the corner. As they approached, the man's eyes slowly opened, revealing a glimmer of wisdom and melancholy. He acknowledged the newcomer with a slight nod and a smile that carried the weight of countless stories.

In that timeless moment, the connection between the stranger and the musician was palpable. The music filled the empty spaces within their souls, transcending time and circumstance. They shared a mutual understanding—an unspoken acknowledgment of the power of music to heal and bridge the gaps between strangers.

And so, the scene unfolded, a testament to the enduring beauty of the human spirit found within the walls of an old, dark bar—a place where the sorrows of the world were momentarily suspended, and the magic of music reigned supreme.
