In 1984 the Mick Pini Band was founded.
1989 With the release of the debut CD "Wildman" (Line Records / Stomp) Pini (born September 11, 1949 in Cremona / Italy) hits the ground running. Pini is being compared to the likes of Jeff Healey and George Thoroghgood by the Musik-Express / Sounds and
receives 5 out of 6 stars in the CD rating.
His discoverer Mike Vernon (producer of Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack, Free and Level 42) about him: "There are few really outstanding guitarists on the scene today, and that in a phase in which the interest in blues of every kind is increasing again. Sure, there are many good ones, but hardly anyone has the potential to set lasting standards like Peter Green did in his time.
I am convinced that Mick is such a guitarist.
The Mick Pini Band opened in 1990
the B.B.King concert at the Volkshaus in Zurich.
1991 Mick Pini is represented at the Great British R&B Festival in Colne. Joachim Kirstein (freelance journalist including Blues News, etc.) sees him there and is enthusiastic:
"I would have placed bets that this would be one of the top acts in blues rock on the continent."
1995 20,000 enthusiastic Hungarians celebrate the band at the Budapest Blues Festival. Pini plays with Chris Farlowe at the Peter Green Tribute Concert. A first impetus for the subsequent comeback of Peter Green with his Splinter Group. In addition to Farlowe, Cozy Powell and Moody Marsden are among the party. The CD "Big Boss Man" is produced in England by Tony Leonard (ex-Gary Glitter Band).
1996 again 20,000 enthusiastic fans at the Budapest Blues Festival. During the Guilford Festival 96 it is said "Mick Pini is the legitimate successor of Peter Green" and
Joe Louis Walker is after supporting Pini's band
equally impressed at the 9th Weinheimer Bluestage.
1997 in April the album "Ain't No Foolin '" is recorded during two off-days and two live shows. According to a review in the Blues News, a disc that "comes up with rich guitar and keyboard sounds and brings songs like" Green Onions "across in proper style", "Pini's rough vocals give the whole thing that special touch", "The covered songs he expresses his own rocking stamp and turns out to be a master of his craft with the guitar solos ".
After the success of their recent tour, The Mick Pini Band will be touring the UK again in 2003
with Roger Inniss on bass and Markus Klopfer on drums.
As well as touring Europe with B.B. King and supporting such blues greats as Buddy Guy, Freddie King and Jimmy Rogers: Mick Pini has earned himself a strong following, particularly in Europe.
Eric Clapton described him in 1996 as
"The legitimate successor to Peter Green".
However, Mick Pini is unquestionably a unique living legend in his own right ... the genuine article. His authentic voice and outstanding guitar work personifies the blues in an inimitable way.
Mick has toured the world for 30 years and has never had a day job. He lives, breathes, plays and sings the blues with genuine passion even his 1954 Fender Stratocaster smokes!
