 Mietek Wróbel, the band's leader and the legend of Gdansk blues, is known to virtually all lovers of this type of music. The legendary band Mietek Blues Band was founded in 1976, playing in Gdansk at the student club "Medyk", then "Artema", at the Gdansk University of Technology. He performed there regularly for several years, until the introduction of martial law. Throughout the period of its activity, Mietek Blues Band performed at all major festivals - starting from the first - Folk Blues Meeting in Poznan, through the festival in Jarocin and Rawa Blues Fest, to Jimmyway Blues Fest, Warta Rock Reggae, Summer Jazz Days in Gdynia, Zlota Tarka and Jazz Jantar in Gdansk. At the same time, he performed in clubs all over the country.

In August 1996, as the only Polish band, he played at the European Art Festival in Budapest, where the stars were such performers as Joe Cocker, Jethro Tull, Jeff Healey and Blood Sweat and Tears. An important event in the history of the band was the performance as a support before the concert of BB King blues king at the Summmer Jazz Days Festival in Sopot in 2000. Since 1996, he has released over a dozen albums. The first was Tribute to the Blues.
