William Clarke
In fact, he was mentored and played for years with the late great George "Harmonica" Smith, one of the many fine harpists who played with Muddy Waters. But Bill was not just a great technician who could copy the greats - there are many of those and there is nothing wrong with that. At the very least, they keep the music alive. However, Clarke developed his own distinctive style, both as a harpist and a blues belter and in my opinion left his own mark as an all time great. He died far too young at the age of 45 in 1996. Who knows how much better this already great talent could have become.
